New Zealand. 1 week with 1 phone.

NEW ZEALAND

1 week – 1 phone

Samsung sent me a Galaxy Note8 phone and challenged me to spend a week on the road to test the Note 8’s camera capabilities.  These are some of my favourite images from that trip.  All shot within 1 week in New Zealand on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Rambo Estrada | New Zealand Surf & Travel Photographer

RAMBO ESTRADA

Documenting adventures.

My name is Rambo Estrada and I take a lot of photos. Sometimes for work, sometimes for fun and often for both. I’m one of the highest profile photographers from New Zealand.

I have a loyal following of 100K on instagram who are interested in my travel, surf, adventure and lifestyle photography.

During the summer I’m based in New Zeland, but during the winter months my partner Bryony and I spend 4-5 months each year traveling.

Below you can see if a selection of images from my recent travel adventures to give you an idea of my photography style and the type of content I create.

INDONESIA

Documenting adventures.

Indonesia! There’s no place like it. Groomed swells hitting perfectly shaped reefs fanned by offshore trade winds in warm water. It almost seems unfair. I went on an adventure exploring Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumatra, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Penida. That sounds like I’ve checked out a lot, but in reality I’ve only visited 9 Indonesian islands and in total there are 17508 Islands!

Deep South – The Catlins New Zealand Surf Photography

DEEP SOUTH

New Zealand

I made a plan to drive my van around The South Island. I wanted to check out the mountains, glaciers and other amazing scenery that The South Island is famous for. But the day I left home I checked the reports for a spot that I’d never been to before and my uneducated guess was that it would be pumping in the morning. So I drove for 27 hours and arrived at dawn. I ended up spending my whole trip scouring the coastline of the deep south. I guess the mountains will have to wait for next time.

2016 – a year in review

2016

a year in review

2016 was a crazy year. I spent half of it traveling. I felt like I didn’t actually shoot much surfing, but looking back at these images it seems maybe found more than my fair share of good waves?

Enjoy. Rambo.

Rekohu – The Chatham Islands

Rekohu

a journey back in time

I took a trip to the Island of Rekohu. It was 3 sketchy hours flying which took me 45 minutes into the future but 50 years back in time. It’s a spooky place, there’s death everywhere. Dead animals, dead ships & dead trees is mostly what you’ll find there. But the ocean is alive, there’s sea-life like no where else, both good and bad. And there is swell on tap, from all directions. I spent a week wandering the island on my own. Most days I wouldn’t encounter another soul. This is what I saw and what I experienced.

Team Average NZ

Monster Children – surfing, skating, camping

Monster Children Magazine is a quarterly lifestyle publication with a focus on surfing, skating, art, music, photography, and a bunch of other cool stuff. It also happens to be my favourite magazine in the whole wide world. Team Average is a pretty rad concept, set a bunch of international pro surfers and skaters free in a foreign land with a stack of tents and an unlimited supply of beer and see what happens. It was an epic crew consisting of Chippa Wilson, Alex Gray, Greyson Fletcher, Natas Kaupas, Dylan Rieder, Ryan Wilson & Jack Fardell. You should see how good I am at putting up a tent now. Check out Monster Children issue #35 for the full article.

West Coast – New Zealand

I spent a week hanging out with Nate Tyler, Chippa Wilson & Dion Agius on the West Coast of New Zealand. We spent a lot of time watching The Bachelorette, lurking at bakeries and driving dusty roads.
